Mike Martin grew up in Bakersfield, CA where he spent many summers and weekends on his grandparent's farm outside of McFarland. While attending college at CSU-Fresno, he worked various jobs from building maintenance and washing tractors to working in tree fruit packing sheds.
Mike became a produce buyer which gave him an opportunity to know the growers and packers in the industry; many are the same contacts he deals with today. As graduation got closer, Mike had no clue about the packaging business and how involved it actually was. He got wind of an open position and decided to interview. The more he spoke to friends about Calpine, the more good things he heard. He decided to give it a shot and is still thankful he did.
His favorite thing about Calpine is that it is run like a family business, and everyone in the company is reachable. The fact that Calpine has recently become an employee owned company is just an extra huge benefit to the already long list.
When Mike isn't busy selling packaging, he spends his time with his family while they camp, fish, boat and attend his three girls' sporting events. He also loves to play a round of golf from time to time. In addition, Mike stays involved with the Bakersfield community by supporting the St. Francis Church.
